April 2022

Spring Garden

On Tuesday last we planted some Spring vegetables. Some were planted outside like cabbage, onions, and shallots and some inside in planter cups such as peas radish and lettuce. Many thanks to John O Connor who supplied the cabbage plants. Thanks to Tom Maguire for constructing new raised beds. We will be hoping for a good return for our effort. Everyone enjoys this yearly hands-on activity. It instils in us an appreciation of our environment.

Pancake Day

Thanks to Caroline Cantillon who helped the children make some delicious pancakes. Everybody enjoyed them.

World Book Day

The senior class joined the junior class for some buddy reading, giving the junior class the opportunity to engage with the more difficult books.

Ukraine Day

In support of Ukraine, the children came to school wearing blue and yellow on March 16th.

Ceremonies

Congratulations to Jacqui O Connell, Anna Maria Harty, Hazel Cantillon, Bridget Canty, and Tadhg Diggin who made their Confirmation on Tuesday March 22nd.

Football Cumann Na mBunscoil

Our school took part in Cumann na mBunscoil football competition on March 15th in Ballyduff. We played Kilconly NS, Lyre Ns, Ballincrossig NS ad Bouleenshere NS. We won two out of our 4 matches. Well done to everyone.

Visiting Museum

The children got to listen to a historian showing them a variety of artefacts from the Kerry County Museum. They were able to handle some of Tom Crean’s personal items that he brought on his expedition, some stone age implements, some bones and household items from the 18th and 19th century. They all brought in their own artifact to show the class.

Aistear THE HOME

The Junior class enjoyed more Aistear under the theme of “The Home”. They built a house from cardboard and arranged furniture around it. They washed and hung out clothes to dry and they ironed using a 19th century iron. They learned lots of new vocabulary about the home and had great fun. They collected collages of a house, naming all the different parts.

Trath na gCeist - Seachtain na Gaeilge

The Senior room took part in Trá na gCeist, an online quiz as Gaeilge. The Junior room watched some cartún as Gaeilge. Maith Sibh go léir.

Spring Clean

We completed our Spring Clean on Friday April 1st. Thanks to all the children for their help.

Bee Bots Engineers Week

The children used basic programming skills to navigate small robots around a track. The senior class made different tracks that forced the children to use their Math’s and Irish skills. They quizzed each other as they programmed their way around the track.
